The Git versioning system inspired the Software Heritage data model, and Software Heritage fully supports it on all forges (including Cgit, Gitea, GitHub, GitLab, Gogs, and formerly Gitorious).

Git repositories can also be loaded individually if they are not on any recognized forge, through the Save Code Now interface.
